Initially established in 1969 under the name of Leon Bekaert South Africa (Pty) Ltd (LBSA), the company was created to supply wire and wire products to the South African market.
In the 1980’s the company started to expand its product offering to other markets, such as the Indian Ocean Islands. It was at this time that there was a management buy-out by the Van Crombrugge family, and the name was changed to Sagentra Trade Corporation (Pty) Ltd.
